Project Results

PR1. Methods Networks and Roles in Vocational Teacher Education

Within a literature review, it will first be determined which networks in TVE/VET can be distinguished across countries. The different stakeholders will also be taken into account. In addition, the literature review will clarify which techniques can best be used to empirically record such networks. In the empirical part of this result, relevant VET networks will then be identified through interviews and other survey techniques. The LeadVET partners will initiate contacts with other relevant stakeholders, but they will also provide data themselves. Furthermore, the literature review will identify techniques for determining the roles of TVE/VET leaders. This activity will be followed by an empirical phase of data collection. The written report from PR1 presents both literature reviews, the techniques used and the results of the empirical work. Moreover, it will provide a scientific basis for working with partnerships, networks, leaders and others to span the boundaries between the multiple sectors involved in VET.

PR2. A Model for In-Service Training for Vocational Teacher Education

A model for in-service training and professional development structures in VTE, including curriculum design and learning practices will be developed. The model will be based on three fundamental principles:

  1. Networking is crucial to vocational education, due to the need for a direct connection between schools and potential employers
  2. Partnerships, in which all participants have trust, equal rights and responsibilities, should connect key players such as schools, universities, other VET providers and municipalities
  3. Mentoring is important for both VTE students and VTE educators, in order to share knowledge more effectively and gain skills.

The essential goal of PR2 is bridging the theory-practice gap in networks in, or related to, university-school partnerships and networks with enterprises.

PR3. Using Mentors to Close the Theory-Practice Gap in Vocational Teacher

It is aimed to develop new practices and involve mentors to bridge the theory-practice gap in VTE, whilst working within university-school partnerships and networks. Finding and implementing fruitful collaboration practices between vocational teacher education (VTE) and vocational education and training (VET) are essential for finding solutions e.g. for teacher shortages, developing curriculum for future working life needs, teacher career development and multi-professional cooperation. Close co-operation involves not only VTE and VET institutions but also a wide network of partners necessary for successful regional impact. This means representatives e.g. from work life, national and municipal authorities and also from other educational institutions. Based on theoretical analysis of networks from PR1, and the model from PR2, new practices will be developed with suggestions, considering local and regional differences and needs. Partners will adapt the mentoring solutions to their own contexts and national circumstances.

PR4. Learning Resources for Leadership and Networking in Vocational Teacher Education

This result will consist of training videos for VET/TVE leaders and key personnel. The videos provide knowledge about how to contribute to establishing and maintaining sustainable structures, and processes between university - schools, and trades/companies in order to enhance recruitment and bridge the gap between theory and practice in VTE and VET. Seven BSL videos focused on one aspect of practice will be produced:

  1. BSL-1 Video will be the general introduction to the LeadVET project
  2. BSL-2 Video will be about the role of student teachers in VET
  3. BSL-3 Video will be about the role of vocational teachers in our model
  4. BSL-4 Video will be about the role of academic staff and vocational teacher-educators in our model
  5. BSL-5 Video will be about the role of school leaders in VET networks
  6. BSL-6 Video will be about the role of coordinators at school in collaborative partnerships
  7. BSL-7 Video will be about the role of the coordinator at the university in collaborative partnerships
